Loving Our Enemies: A Faithful Perspective on Compassion and Forgiveness

July 03, 2025 2 min read

One of the most powerful teachings in Christianity is about love. Not just any kind of love, but a special kind that challenges us all.

God said to continue to love our enemies.

This teaching asks us to do something that may feel hard - to love those who don't love us back. But the message goes even further. We're called to share this good news with everyone. This means taking God's message to people in all walks of life - to those in jail, to folks on the streets, and even along busy city roads.

This call to spread love and understanding knows no bounds. It reaches into places many might overlook. Whether someone is behind bars or walking down Broadway, the message remains the same - love must reach everyone, everywhere.

Challenging Beliefs: Loving When It's Hardest

Sometimes we face tough choices about love. Bad thoughts can creep in and test us. These thoughts might tell us to stop loving our children when they make wrong choices.

However, some of us, believe that or believe the thoughts that Satan has given us that if our children are in jail or if they are walking in a way that is not good, then we are to stop loving them.

What should we do when our own child acts like an enemy? The answer is clear:

And I would like to know if your child is acting like an enemy to you. He said, continue to love your enemies.

The message is simple but powerful. Keep loving, no matter what. Even when our children stray or end up in jail, our love should stay strong. Don't let negative thoughts win. Our call to love doesn't stop when times get hard.
